Band History

Second Generation Swing started in 1978 as the Althoff Catholic High School Alumni Jazz Band. Several alumni musicians just didn't want to stop playing after graduation. The band evolved over several years into a not-for-profit corporation designed as a place for local musicians to continue enjoying and developing their musical talents. Novice players as young as 14 to experienced players have enjoyed playing in the band. Music styles include swing, rock, jazz, funk and a few polkas and waltzes sprinkled in for the audience's dancing pleasure. The band continues to practice in Belleville, IL on a weekly basis and performs about once a month. Gigs have included weddings, bar mitzvahs, anniversaries, birthdays, church picnics, class reunions, house tours, and charity events.
